Waukegan, Illinois (April 11, 2025) – Registration for the Waukegan Park District’s Belvidere Explorers Summer Camp is now open. The full-day summer camp will be offered on weekdays from 9am to 4pm from Monday, June 9, 2025 to Friday, August 1, 2025. Open to children from six (6) to twelve (12) years of age, the summer camp will engage children in enriching experiences, including arts, crafts, outdoor exploration, sports, weekly field trips, and more.
The summer camp will be held in the Belvidere Recreation Center, located at 412 S. Lewis Avenue in Corrine J. Rose Park. Before care from 7am to 9am and after care from 4pm to 6pm will be available for an additional fee.
Registration is available for the following sessions:
- Session 1: Monday, June 9, 2025 to Friday, June 13, 2025
- Session 2: Monday, June 16, 2025 to Friday, June 20, 2025*
- Session 3: Monday, June 23, 2025 to Friday, June 27, 2025
- Session 4: Monday, June 30, 2025 to Friday, July 4, 2025*
- Session 5: Monday, July 7, 2025 to Friday, July 11, 2025
- Session 6: Monday, July 14, 2025 to Friday, July 18, 2025
- Session 7: Monday, July 21, 2025 to Friday, July 25, 2025
- Session 8: Monday, July 28, 2025 to Friday, August 1, 2025
*The summer camp will not be in session on Thursday, June 19, 2025, in observance of Juneteenth, and Friday, July 4, 2025, in observance of American Independence Day.
Registration for the summer camp can be completed at the Field House Sports, Fitness & Aquatics Center, located at 800 Baldwin Avenue in Hinkston Park, or online if paid in full. A registration form must be submitted for each participant. If not paid in full, a $30 nonrefundable deposit per session is required to make a summer camp reservation and the remaining balance is due two weeks prior to the session start date. The Waukegan Park District accepts third-party funding from other organizations and offers financial assistance. Nationally accredited by the NRPA Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA) and State accredited through the IAPD Distinguished Agency Accreditation, the WPD has received the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Triple Crown Award for receiving the GFOA’s Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting, Popular Annual Financial Reporting Award, and the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award. The WPD was awarded the NRPA National Gold Medal Award for Excellence in Park and Recreation Management in 2013, and was named a Gold Medal Finalist in 2012, 2013, 2019, 2021, 2022, and 2023.
