The Board of Commissioners of the Waukegan Park District announced the election of new officers for fiscal year 2015-16. At the May 12 meeting, Patricia Foley was elected President, George Bridges as Vice President and Janet Kilkelly as Treasurer. In addition, the Board expressed their appreciation to Terry Duffy for his service as President in the prior fiscal year and his 12 years as a Commissioner. Charles W. Smith, of Smith, LaLuzerne & Hartman Ltd. Ltd. was renamed attorney for the Waukegan Park District Board.
The 16th Annual Dandelion Wine Fine Arts Festival will be Saturday, June 6 from 10a-4p in Bowen Park. The festival is dedicated to showcasing local and regional artists and venues, championing the arts, remaining free to the public, offering low participation fees to artists, and remembering one of Waukegan’s favorite sons, author Ray Bradbury. The annual Fishing Derby provides prizes for the largest fish caught by age
categories. The Derby is from 8-10:30am on Saturday, June 6 at Bevier Park.
Advance registrations are encouraged, use program #0683. By doing so, you can
save on the registration fee and avoid long lines. Limited supply of fishing

We invite you and your family to
experience the fun and excitement of the summer at the Howard Ganster pool.
Located in beautiful Belvidere Park, features include many exciting water-based
components such as a children’s wading pool and multi level diving boards. Come
out and discover why the Howard Ganster pool is the best way to "beat the heat"
this summer in Waukegan! Passes are on sale now at the Belvidere Recreation Center.
Join us in highlighting three community parks this June. This program brings together 3
departments to provide activities for our community. Join us for entertainment,
lifelong sports, nature. This program will run from 6-7:30pm on June 12: Belvidere Park, June 19: Bevier Park and June 26: Bowen Park.
Check-in is on-site at the Waukegan Beach. Join us June 13, July 11 &
August 8. Yoga is 8-9am and Zumba is 9:10-10:15am. A limited amount of yoga mats will

The Cultural Arts van will bring an art project to neighborhood parks

The annual Tour of Homes on Sunday, June 21 from 1-5pm, is a self-guided tour that showcases selected,
beautiful homes in Waukegan. Participants are able to learn the history of some
of the finest homes in the city as well as tour their interiors. The Tour of
Homes, started in 1969, is the main fundraiser of the Waukegan Historical
Society. Ticket Prices: $10 Advance Tickets for Waukegan Historical Society Members,

The Waukegan Park District Board of Commissioners approved the 2015-2017 Strategic Plan at a recent meeting. Barbara Heller, of Heller and Heller Consulting, Inc, returned to assist with the new strategic plan which built upon the strategies and outcomes of the previous 2010 plan. The plan reflects significant public input from a variety of sources including a public meeting with more than 80 community members in attendance. The plan is organized by strategic themes, goals and initiatives spanning the next three fiscal years. Click here to read more.

Park Use Permits help the District accommodate groups and ensure guests have a pleasant, safe, and enjoyable park experience. Park Use Permit green space and pavilion rental applications are available. Applications are processed in the order in which they are received, first come, first served. Applications need to be completed and submitted in person at the Belvidere Recreation Center, (BRC) 412 S. Lewis Ave Monday thru Friday, 9am-8pm and Saturdays from 9am-2pm. Proof of residency and identification are required and rental fees and security deposits must accompany the completed application.
