We are happy to announce the Waukegan Park District will offering summer camps this year! All camps will be modified to comply with the COVID-19 restrictions. This includes all full-day camps, part-day camps, sport camps and specialty camps.
The Waukegan Park District is closely monitoring the Restore Illinois plan for reopening Illinois during the COVID-19 crisis. Significant effort has been completed to determine our ability to provide safe programming for the children in our community this summer. The hope is that the Northeast Region of Illinois will move into Phase 3-Recovery at the beginning of June. We will be creating a revised version of our traditional day camp when the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDHP) and Centers for Disease Control (CDC) release operating guidelines.
We understand many families rely on summer camp for childcare. The restructured day camp will be incorporated as a Summer Fun Club and initially be held at one facility location which will be comprised of smaller group sizes, different room locations allowing for separation between camp groups, increased sanitation practices, face coverings when necessary, and social distancing restrictions in accordance with IDPH and CDC guidelines.
The tentative dates for this new Summer Fun Club structure are June 15 – August 14, 2020. The Summer Fun Club will be offered on a bi-weekly basis with each session lasting two weeks. Due to the need to keep groups separate and provide indoor shelter for each group, there will be a limited number of spaces available for registration. In preparation and pending that the Northeast Region move into Phase 4 by mid-July, the Summer Fun Club would expand to additional facility sites which will allow for more children to be served.
As always, we will do our best to accommodate as many campers as safely as we can following the guidelines s we are provided by the State of Illinois.
If you have any questions regarding the new Summer Fun Club option, contact Recreation Specialist, Javi Martinez at email@example.com or at (847) 360-4706 or Recreation Supervisor, Jennifer Dumas at firstname.lastname@example.org or (847) 360-4705.
Special Recreation is also researching options for a specialty camp for children with disabilities pending that Phase 4 of Restore Illinois has been established. If you have any questions regarding Special Recreation programs and services, you can contact Kari Robinson at email@example.com or (847) 360-4763.
Thank you very much for your understanding. The Waukegan Park District prides itself on a history of excellent day camps. We will miss our usual day camp activities but are working hard to create a positive Summer Fun Club experience for those children we will be able to serve this summer.
Additional program opportunities, including a variety of virtual programs, for the community are being planned within the parameters of the Restore Illinois Plan and details will be forthcoming.
Let us all work together to stay Healthy and Well!
