Waukegan, Illinois (June 26, 2024) – The Waukegan Park District presents the annual American Independence Parade on Sunday, June 30, 2024, stepping off at 1pm and traveling north on Sheridan Road from Franklin Street to Jack Benny Drive. This year’s parade theme is “Star Spangled Celebration” and the Grand Marshal will be Senator Adriane Johnson.
Senator Johnson represents the 30th District, which includes Waukegan, in the Illinois State Senate. Having served as President of the Buffalo Grove Park District Board of Commissioners, and former Chair of the Illinois Association of Park Districts Board of Trustees, Senator Johnson is a passionate advocate for parks and recreation.
Vista Health System will provide free water for parade participants to refresh themselves halfway through the parade route at the northwest corner of Sheridan Road and Glen Flora Street. Waukegan Public Schools will host a picnic in front of Lincoln Center for Educational Services, located at 1201 N. Sheridan Road. Free hot dogs and water will be available for the public, while supplies last.
The lead sponsors of the 2024 American Independence Parade are Commissioner Jeremiah Johnson and The Quonset Pizza.
Anton L. Mathews, President of the Waukegan Park District Board of Commissioners, stated, “I am looking forward to seeing the community come together for a patriotic celebration. With so many spectators along picturesque Sheridan Road, the Waukegan Park District’s American Independence Parade is one of the highlights of the summer.”
