Performances and Exhibitions
The Waukegan Park District Cultural Arts Division provides the community with fine arts programming, arts exhibitions and student recitals.
- The division sponsors two musical groups, the Waukegan Symphony Orchestra and the Waukegan Concert Chorus. Each group offers a spring and fall Concert and together present the annual Joseph A. Favero Memorial Do It Yourself Messiah and Carol Sing Along in December.
- The Young People’s Concert in February is the Waukegan Symphony Orchestra’s performance for children. After the concert, children are invited to the stage to mingle with musicians and learn more about their musical instruments.
- The Jack Benny Center with two galleries rotates art exhibits throughout the year. Shown are Lake County Art League artists, student and themed cultural art.
Showcasing the Works of Lake County’s Arts Community
The Lake County Art League came into being in 1934, with the purpose of showcasing the works of Lake County’s art’s community.
The late Phil Austin, a commercial artist and fine arts painter, was instrumental in the Leagues start.
Our mission has changed through the years to that of education. The Art League has demonstrations every month (with the exception of the summer months) which includes two highly thought of critiques in November and May. The League also holds workshops by eminent artists. All disciplines are covered. The League has a membership of over 140 artists.

The Jack Benny Center for the Arts has rotating exhibits on its main floor that are curated by the Lake County Art League April through June and September through December. Articles shown in these exhibits are often for sale. During the other months, this gallery hosts other shows that rotate between school and special exhibitions.
