Waukegan Park District to Host Free Movies in the Parks

Waukegan, Illinois (June 10, 2025) – The Waukegan Park District will be hosting five free movies during the summer. Hosted at various parks and the Waukegan Municipal Beach, each movie on the lineup is family friendly. Free popcorn will be provided, while supplies last.

The free movies will be presented on the following dates at dusk:

  • Saturday, June 14, 2025 at Victory Park, 1325 North Avenue
  • Saturday, July 12, 2025 at Diversity Park, 4499 W. Hill Avenue
  • Saturday, July 26, 2025 at Country Lane Park, 3353 Country Lane
  • Friday, August 8, 2025 at the Waukegan Municipal Beach, 201 E. Seahorse Drive*
  • Saturday, August 16, 2025 at Bowen Park, 1800 N. Sheridan Road*

*The movie on Friday, August 8, 2025 is being shown as part of the 2025 Touch a Truck and Waukegan Night Out and the movie on Saturday, August 16, 2025 is being shown as part of the 25th Annual Ray Bradbury’s Dandelion Wine Arts & Music Festival.

The Waukegan Park District’s Arts Park Program will host free arts and crafts before each movie. Attendees will have the opportunity to create art, including drawings, paintings, sculptures, and more. The Arts Park Program was established in 2011 to create a free arts experience throughout parks in the community and is supported by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council Agency.

All movies will begin at dusk. Attendees are encouraged to bring snacks, blankets, and chairs to enjoy the outdoor movies. In case of inclement weather, movies will be postponed to a later date. More information, including the movie lineup, is available at waukeganparks.org/movies.

Established on December 26, 1916, the Waukegan Park District (WPD) has 53 properties and more than 742 acres of land, including the 18-hole Bonnie Brook and 9-hole Greenshire Golf Courses. Properties are managed to the highest environmental and conservation standards. A member of the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), Illinois Association of Park Districts (IAPD), Illinois Park and Recreation Association (IPRA), and the Park District Risk Management Agency (PDRMA), the WPD employs 73 full-time and 219 part-time, seasonal, and temporary employees and is recognized by the IPRA as an Exceptional Workplace.

Nationally accredited by the NRPA Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA) and State accredited through the IAPD Distinguished Agency Accreditation, the WPD has received the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Triple Crown Award for receiving the GFOA’s Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting, Popular Annual Financial Reporting Award, and the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award. The WPD was awarded the NRPA National Gold Medal Award for Excellence in Park and Recreation Management in 2013, and was named a Gold Medal Finalist in 2012, 2013, 2019, 2021, 2022, and 2023.
