The Waukegan Park District received top honors from the Illinois Park and Recreation Association in four categories at Friday’s award banquet: Greg Petry, Executive Director of the Waukegan Park District received the Robert Artz Distinguished Service Award,
Wayne Motley received the Mike Cassidy Community Service Award, the Waukegan SportsPark received the Illinois Association of Park and Recreation Outstanding Facility and Park Award and
Roosevelt Park received the Illinois Parks and Recreation Outstanding Conservation Program. Click here for more information.

February Ice Skating Days are here. Every Saturday in February from 1-2 pm at Victory Park you and your friends and family can meet to ice skate, cozy up by a warm fire, and drink hot chocolate. Girls on the Run is a program for all girls in grades 3-5 who want to have fun and play running games. Girls of all athletic ability can register. Volunteers should have experience or interest in working with children and promoting healthy lifestyles. Click here for more information.

Top honors were awarded to two Waukegan Park District employees at the annual employee recognition dinner. Sally Sandine received the 2011 Board of Commissioners Award for her superior efforts and achievements in serving the Park District.
The 2011 Employee of the Year was Jessica Mitchell, who began working at the Waukegan Park District in 2008 as a Recreation Specialist for Adult and Family Programs and Services.
Among employees recognized for service were Chuck Kisonis with 35 years; Greg Benson and Ervin Jacobs each with 25 years and a group of employees with 5 and 10 years of service.

Greg Petry, Executive Director of the Waukegan Park District recently earned the Certified Park and Recreation Executive (CPRE) certification granted by the National Certification Board in conjunction with the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA). The CPRE program recognizes advanced skills and competencies related to the professional practice and delivery of park and recreation programs and services. Mr. Petry is among the first ever to earn this new certification along with four other park district directors in Illinois. Click here to read more.
