Children, Camps & Enrichment – General Information

Welcome!

The Recreation Department’s goal is to offer activities for all age groups; programs that are recreational, social, cultural, physical, also offer creative outlets.

The Recreation Department encourages children and adults to take advantage of recreational opportunities by participating in the many early childhood, youth and teen, camp, after-school, adult programs, aquatic, athletic, leagues, and/or special recreation programs. Our programs and services benefit individuals by enhancing self-esteem, creative expression, fitness and physical activity.Day Camp

Information on fall, winter, spring and summer activities can be found in the Waukegan Park District seasonal program guide. Additional activity information may be provided to children at school, or you may also see activity information on park district marquees, or in the local newspaper. Special Recreation offers a program brochure for winter/spring, summer and fall.

The Waukegan Park District is committed to helping families stay physically and mentally active and fit, pursue fun and possibly lifelong recreational interests, make healthy decisions and learn skills that enrich their lives. Children and youth programs are geared toward developmental stages and contain activities that reflect social, physical, emotional and cognitive development. Playing outdoors is encouraged as a way to explore, test physical limits, cooperate with others, reduce obesity and connect with nature.

What are the benefits?

Early Childhood Programs provide positive recreational opportunities for fun, learning, and socialization. They are also designed to encourage creativity through songs, music, books, and art, as well as promoting self-confidence through independent play.

Youth and Teen Programs work to enhance self- esteem, expose youth to new opportunities, increase their knowledge, cultural awareness, and well-being among their peers.
